LENS- FINAL picture and CONTEXT

This photo captures my interpretation on eternity mirrors.
Candles are lit and placed in between two mirrors that are facing each other, showing reflection upon reflection and giving the 'never ending' effect or the 'eternity' effect.
The background is dark with unlit lanterns hanging and the only light is coming from the candles, making the candles the focal point of the photo. The concept of forever, or eternity can seem daunting and scary for some people. Different reasons such as difficult challenges or the unknown could be what scares people which is shown through the black background.
The purpose of a lantern is to give light in darkness and yet these lanterns aren't working. So the unlit lanterns represent 'paths of life' that may look apealing and may look like the right paths to take but aren't.
The multiple refections of the candles have created a linear effect, leading your eyes from the bottom to the top. This represents the 'right path' for you, into eternity. On the right path you should take, there are no decieveing unlit lanterns; just multiple lights that guide you along.
Lights in a dark room do make you feel safer. The path that the candles have made show that despite the mystery of eternity, there are always going to be 'bright' and happy times in our lives, giving us the comfort we need.
Lights represent ideas that you have, or that you finally understand something- 'the light bulb effect'. Knowing and understanding what you are doing in life does make you optimistic.
I used the rule of thirds to know where to place the mirrors. Doing this gave more focus to the reflections of the candles.
Different textures and sizes of the candles are used to represent that light comes in diverse forms. Although they are different, they still shine the same, symbolising that you can have a variety of people, or cultures, or ideas and still appreciate the 'light' within each one. The fact that we are all different, is the same thing that makes us all the same.
I used oranges, reds and yellows, showing that these colours are harmoneous. Adds to the concept of people being different and yet still living in harmony.
So despite this image being farely dark, i love how the candles illuminate it.
The idea of eternity should be one that reflects hope, light and something to definitely look forward to.

LENS- Presentation, Te Tuhi

Title: Interigation

Artist: Ignas Krunglevicius

Date: 2009

What is it made out of: Dual channel video installation.

Where is it: Two large screens placed on the floor.

How big/small is it: Both screens are farely huge.

How is it framed/mounted/displayed: The screens are connected, and are placed in a V shape. You can see inside the V shape, and are able to see both screens at the same time.

What is the light doing: The room has been darkened, and the only light is on the screens which help us to focus on what the video is showing and not on other distracting images in the room. Makes you feel like you're in a movie theartre, where you are expected to be quiet and not distracting throughout the presentation.

Other: "This enthralling dual channel video installation delves into the psychology of police interrogation through an abstract assault of sound, text and colour. The work borrows an excerpt from a US police transcript between the detective Robert John and murder suspect Mary Kovic (a pseudonym) who allegedly killed her husband in 2004.Interrogation is an immersive experience that deconstructs the politics of power laced within language and explores the ability to coerce compliance through the craft of speech." http://www.tetuhi.org.nz/exhibitions/exhibitiondetails.php?id=152

LENS- Experimentation with photoshop

Playing with the RGB channels to make greyscale picture.

Using the dodge tool to make the flowers lighter and more flouresent-like. I also used the blur tool between the branches to blur out the background to have you focus more on the mirror in the foreground.

LENS- Experimentation and Evaluation

I decided to take mirrors outside and take photos of reflections of the plants and trees in my backyard. Mirrors used as windows.
I took photos of when the weather was sunny and when it was cloudy and raining.
